What is VP/Eicosene Copolymer?
VP/Eicosene copolymer is a polymer of vinylpyrrolidone and 1-eicosene. It is a white-colored, free-flowing powder and is insoluble in water. It is used for its hydrophobic properties in various kinds of cosmetic and personal care products.
Use & Benefits:
- Film-Forming Agent: As a film-forming agent when applied on the hair or skin, it forms a supple, cohesive, and continuous layer. This layer/film has water-binding properties that leave a silky and smooth effect on the skin.
- Binding Agent: As a binding agent, it helps in binding or holding together the ingredients in a cosmetic product in the compressed cake or tablet form of the product. It prevents other ingredients of the product from falling apart.
- Viscosity Control: A viscosity-increasing agent, when used, increases the thickness of the solution and makes it less runny and easier to spread.
- Enhanced Sunscreen Performance: It's commonly found in water-resistant sunscreens since it is thought to help sunscreens stick to the skin better and avoid premature breakdown in water.
- Versatile Formulations: It is used in formulations of creams, lotions, gels, make-up, and other skin and hair care products.
- Pigment Distribution and Gloss Enhancement: It has the capacity to spread pigments and give lipsticks gloss (shine).
