What is rifolium pratense flower extract / Trifolium pratense extract or Red Clover?
Red clover is also known as Trifolium pratense is an herbaceous flowering plant. It is native to Europe, Northwest Africa, and Western Asia. It is a perennial plant with dark pink-colored flowers. The plant is mainly used as fodder, ornamental plant, and green manure due to its ability to fix free nitrogen from the atmosphere. The extract obtained from the plant and flowers mainly contains flavonoids, isoflavones or phytoestrogens, tannins, and essential oils.

The extract from red clover containing tannins acts as an astringent, flavonoids it contains may act as antioxidants, essential oil it contains may play a role as a masking agent, and as a phytoestrogen, it may help reduce premature signs of aging. Being an astringent, it partially coagulates skin protein that is present mainly in dead skin cells, dead bacteria, and dirt. This process also shrinks the open pores present on the skin. It not only gives a tighter appearance but also reduces excess oil secretion and redness from the skin. Keeping skin free of dust and dirt and helps to prevent infections. The dead skin cell layer when removed from the skin by astringent effect, the process brightens up the skin and makes it even-toned. Our skin when exposed to the environment, it has to face many challenges such as exposure to harmful oxygen effects, free radical generation, etc. This exposure may lead to a cascade of damaging effects on our skin. Such as the faulty formation of skin protein in turn faulty skin cell generation as a result skin may appear with all aging signs such as fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.
