What is Tocopherol?
Tocopherol is a class of organic compounds that has activity similar to that of vitamin E. It is obtained from natural sources like vegetable fats and oils, meat, eggs, dairy products, and cereals. In the year 1936, it was discovered that tocopherol possesses properties similar to those of vitamin E. It is a clear viscous brown liquid with a faint odor. It is used as a dietary supplement and also in medicines to cure some ailments.

- Antioxidant Protection: Tocopherol functions as an antioxidant and a skin conditioning agent. It is generally used at a concentration of 0.5-2.5% depending on the type of product.
- Environmental Defense: Exposure to environmental variables such as radiation, pollution, and other hazardous chemicals causes our bodies to create free radicals. Antioxidants scavenge these free radicals and reduce visible signs of aging.
- Skin Restoration: Free radicals hamper the skin restoration process by breaking down collagen, leading to inflammation, fine lines, wrinkles, and infections such as acne and dark patches.
- Collagen Synthesis: It increases collagen synthesis, brightens the skin, and improves the health and youthfulness of the skin.
- Moisture Retention: Tocopherol increases the water-binding capacity of the skin, retains moisture, and keeps the stratum corneum layer of the skin hydrated.
- Skin Conditioning: It keeps skin conditioned and is used in formulations of creams, lotions, gels, makeup, sunscreens, and other skin and hair care products.
