Tetrahydrodemethoxycurcumin is a beta-diketone that is tetrahydrocurcumin with a hydrogen atom replacing one of the methoxy groups. It functions as a metabolite in plants. Curcumin is a yellow-colored compound obtained from the plant Curcuma longa of the family Zingiberaceae. It is also called the turmeric plant, a perennial, rhizomatous herb. Turmeric is used as a spice in food and also in Ayurvedic medicines.
