What is Sorbitan Oleate?
Sorbitan oleate is a non-ionic compound formed by reacting polyol, sorbitol, and fatty acids. Hence, it is a sorbitol-derived monoester comprising oleic acid (an omega-9 fatty acid) and hexitol anhydrides (often used as a humectant). All these ingredients are obtained from their natural sources. Sorbitan oleate is a yellow to amber-colored viscous liquid with a bland odor. It is a low-hazard ingredient, which is why it is used in cosmetic products.
