INCI: Sodium salicylate
What is Sodium salicylate?
Sodium salicylate is the sodium salt of salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is found naturally in willow trees, particularly in its bark. Sodium salicylate is a white, odorless, crystalline powder. It is used in medicines as a mild analgesic and antipyretic. It was previously made by refluxing methyl salicylate (wintergreen oil) with an excessive amount of sodium hydroxide.
