What is Silicone?

Silicone, or polysiloxane, or siloxane, is a polymer made up of siloxane monomers. It is a colorless, oily, or rubbery substance. The word silicone was coined by F.S. Kipping in 1901. It is used as silicone gel, oil, resin, or in its rubber form in various applications. Silicone has a wide variety of uses like in sealants, adhesives, lubricants, and medicines.

Use & Benefits:

Emollient: Fills up the gaps between the dead cells in the skin, making it appear softer and smoother. Maintains the lipid barrier and retains moisture in the skin, making it appear healthier.

Film-forming agent: Forms a thin film on the surface of the skin, providing a barrier that protects it from allergens, bacteria, and irritants that can lead to conditions like acne, eczema, dryness, and itchiness.

Moisturizing agent: Retains moisture in the skin and makes it appear softer, smoother, and healthier.

Spreadability: Has excellent spreadability and forms a permeable barrier on the surface of the skin, protecting it from the loss of moisture.

Texture enhancer: Enhances the texture of the skin and does not clog pores.

Hair care: Repairs damaged hair, retains moisture, and makes it appear softer and silkier.

Makeup: Used in liquid foundations to maintain a fresh look on the face.

Sun care: Due to its water-resistant nature, it is used in sun care products.

Skincare: Used in the formulations of creams, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, makeup, and other skincare products.
