What is Sclerocarya birrea seed oil?
Sclerocarya birrea is a deciduous tree with a single stem and a crown of leaves on top. It bears edible fruits, commonly called marula. The plant is native to the Miombo woodlands of South Africa and is also found in West Africa and Madagascar. It belongs to the family of Anacardiaceae, like that of mango and cashew nuts. The tree is commercially used for its fruits, which are edible and used to make beer. The oil is extracted from its seeds by the traditional cold-press method. It is a clear, colorless, or light yellow-colored liquid with a characteristic odor. It is rich in fatty acids like linoleic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, etc., which makes it a useful ingredient in cosmetic products.
