What is Sambucus canadensis extract?

Sambucus canadensis, commonly called American black elderberry or Canada elderberry, is a species of elderberry native to the rocky mountains of North America and parts of Bolivia. It is a deciduous shrub with purple to black colored berries. The fruits are edible and also used to make jams and jellies. Use & Benefits:

Antioxidant Properties: Sambucus canadensis is a rich source of antioxidants such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, and anthocyanins, which help to protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can cause cellular damage, leading to premature aging, fine lines, and wrinkles. The antioxidants in elderberry extract neutralize free radicals, helping to maintain healthy and youthful-looking skin.

Anti-inflammatory Properties: Elderberry extract contains anti-inflammatory compounds that can help to reduce inflammation in the skin. Inflammation can lead to redness, irritation, and skin sensitivity, so reducing inflammation can help to improve the overall appearance and health of the skin.

Skin Brightening: Elderberry extract has been shown to have skin-brightening effects due to the presence of flavonoids and anthocyanins. These compounds help to even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, leaving the skin looking brighter and more radiant.

Moisturizing: Elderberry extract has natural emollient properties, which can help to moisturize and hydrate the skin. This makes it a great ingredient for dry or dehydrated skin types.

Anti-Aging: Elderberry extract has been shown to stimulate collagen production, which can help to improve the elasticity and firmness of the skin. Collagen is a protein that provides structural support to the skin, and as we age, our natural collagen production decreases, leading to sagging and wrinkles. Using elderberry extract can help to counteract these effects and promote a more youthful-looking complexion.

Other Benefits:
Immune-Boosting: Elderberry extract has long been used in traditional medicine as a natural remedy for colds and flu. It has been shown to have antiviral and immune-boosting properties, which can help to support the body's natural defenses and promote overall wellness.

Anti-cancer Properties: Preliminary studies have shown that elderberry extract may have anti-cancer properties due to its ability to induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells.
When used in skincare products, elderberry extract can provide a range of benefits, from antioxidant protection to anti-aging effects. It can be found in a variety of formulations, including creams, serums, and masks.
