SAGE EXTRACT
INCI: Salvia officinalis extract
What is Salvia officinalis extract?
Sage extract is obtained from a plant called Salvia officinalis, also known as the sage plant. It is a perennial, evergreen shrub with blue to purple flowers and is cultivated in many countries throughout the world, mainly in the Mediterranean region. The plant is not only ornamental but also used in culinary and medicinal applications. The extract obtained from the whole plant is a light to medium amber-colored liquid with a typical odor.
Use & Benefits:
Antimicrobial: Sage extract functions as an antimicrobial agent in cosmetic products.
Antioxidant: Sage extract acts as an antioxidant, which helps to protect the skin from harmful environmental factors such as UV rays.
Astringent: Sage extract has astringent properties that are beneficial for the skin. It helps to loosen dead skin cells that have dirt and dead bacteria attached to them, making them easier to remove through cleansing action. Additionally, astringent constricts or carries out desquamation of skin cells, which leads to the constriction of skin pores, making the skin appear tighter.
Cleansing: Sage extract also functions as a cleansing agent, which helps to remove impurities from the skin.
Skin conditioning: Sage extract is a skin conditioning agent, which means that it helps to condition the skin, keeping it hydrated and smooth.
Preservative: Sage extract acts as a preservative, inhibiting the growth of molds, fungus, or bacteria in the product. This increases the shelf life of the product, allowing the aroma, taste, and cosmetics to be stored for a longer time without deterioration.
Protective film: Sage extract forms a protective film on the surface of the skin, making it appear smooth and soft.
Moisturizing: Sage extract prevents the loss of moisture from the skin while lubricating it, thus keeping it moisturized.
Versatility: Sage extract can be used in a variety of cosmetic products, including creams, lotions, gels, face toners, moisturizers, deodorants, shampoos, conditioners, and other skin and hair care products.
