What is Psidium guajava fruit extract / Psidium guajava leaf extract?
Guava is sour when raw, sweet when ripe. Its leaves are also aromatic. Guava is native to tropical America, cultivated in rest of the world. The fruit contains vitamins, minerals and has rutin, quercetin, gallic acid, ellagic acid, catechin and epicatechin, beta-sitosterol, urosolic acid. Guava leaves contain caryophyllene, pera selinene, flavonoids such as sitosterols, triterpenoids, and tannins. The guava fruit extract is light to medium amber liquid.
Use & Benefits:
The guava fruit and leaves contain vitamins and flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. Antioxidant not only fights against free radicals but also protects skin and product both from deleterious effect of oxygen. For products it can save the product from getting rancid or losing the effectiveness before the expiry date. For the skin, it neutralizes free radicals, which can otherwise damage or change the skin protein structure, and eventually bring out untimely aging effect on skin like fine lines or wrinkles. So, antioxidants prevent this change in the skin and bring the natural skin texture and appearance back. It also conditions the skin by forming a layer over the surface of skin or hair. Guava leaf extract when applied on skin, loosens the dead skin cells, and breaks the bonds between the dead skin cells and the base layer, thus helping to peel it from skin. When the dead skin layer is removed from skin, the skin becomes brighter, clear and free from any blemishes. It also believed to bring out even-toned skin. Guava leaf and fruit extracts are used in skincare and hair care products.
