What is Prunus domestica fruit extract?
The plum extract is obtained from the fruits of the plant Prunus domestica. It is commonly known as the plum tree. It is widely cultivated in Europe. The tree is widely cultivated for its tasty and juicy plums. The plum extract is obtained by cold pressing of the fruit, flower, and seed. The seed extract is obtained by cold pressing the seeds of the plum fruit. Seed oil is also very useful because of its vitamins E, beta carotene, vitamin B, oleic, and linoleic acid to name a few.

The plum fruit extract is used as an emollient and skin conditioning agent in cosmetic products. An emollient is an oily substance that fills up the gaps in between the dead cells in the skin. It makes skin appear soft and smoother. It forms a thin film on the surface of the skin. It forms a barrier and protects the skin from allergens, bacteria, and irritants which pass into deeper layers of the skin. It leads to conditions like acne, eczema, dryness, and itchiness on the skin. It is used in the formulations of many skincare products.
Plum seed oil is rich in fatty acids and anti-oxidants. It has both skin hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also known to protect skin from free radicals. Antioxidants are very essential for our skin, as our skin faces exposure to environmental factors like radiation, pollution, and other toxic chemicals. Thus, it comes across free radicals that are already there and as a chain reaction produces free radicals within the body, which may lead to change in the chemical structure of collagen and elastin, essential skin proteins. Thereby it may lead to inflammation, fine lines, wrinkles, and infections like acne and dark spots. Antioxidant scavenges these free radicals and reduces these visible signs of aging. It also improves overall skin condition. In hair, it offers smoothing and shining effects. It is used in formulations of creams, lotions, gels, and hair care, and skincare products.
