What is Polymethylsilsesquioxane?
Polymethylsilsesquioxane is a polymer of methyltrimethoxysilane, synthesized by condensation and hydrolysis. It is silicone with spherical shaped, fine particles. It is fine white-colored, excellent water repellent it has a unique characteristic of free-flowing.
Use & Benefits:
Polymethylsilsesquioxane functions as a film-former, skin conditioning, and anti-aging agent in a wide variety of cosmetic products. As a film-forming agent when applied on the hair or skin, it forms a thin, protective layer on the surface of skin or hair. This layer/film does not allow water to pass through so it reduces the loss of water and leaves a silky and smooth effect on the skin and conditions it. This property is especially effective in the case of dry and sensitive skin. It is an excellent water repellent which makes it a useful ingredient in sun care products. It also reduces aging effects from the skin by reducing wrinkles and fine lines formed on the skin. Similar to other silicon, it improves the appearance, feels, and spreadability of any preparation. Moisture plays a vital role in the aging of the skin since less or absence of moisture can lead to a metabolic disturbance on the surface of the skin, which decreases the skin’s immunity towards infections. It is used in formulations of creams, lotions, gels, make-up, sun care, skin and hair care products.
