INCI: Methyldibromo glutaronitrile
What is Methyldibromo glutaronitrile?
Methyldibromo glutaronitrile, known as MDBGN, is a bromine-containing a preservative. It is an off white to light tan crystalline powder. It is made by the reaction of bromine and 2-methyleneglutaronitrile.
Use & Benefits:
Methyldibromo glutaronitrile is preservative that can cover a wider range of harmful microbes. Cosmetic products, when on the shelf or in use especially, when having naturally derived ingredients are prone to microbial growth, which in turn can spoil the product and also can adversely affect its user. MDBGN, being a preservative reduces and slows down the microbial growth and protects the product from spoilage. It is used in very low concentrations mainly in rinse-off cosmetic products.
