What is Litsea cubeba fruit oil / Litsea cubeba fruit extract?
Litsea cubeba is an evergreen tree, also known as May chang or mountain pepper. It is native to Taiwan, China, and other southeastern countries. The entire plant can be used for the extraction of essential oil, but the fruit part has the most useful essential oil. The oil obtained from a plant is known as EOLC (Essential oil of litsea cubeba), which is a pale-yellow liquid with an intensely lemon-like spicy aroma. It mainly contains terpenes like geranial, neral, d-limonene, linalool, verbenol, alpha and beta-pinene, myrcene etc.
Use & Benefits:
Due to its lemony fragrance it is useful in perfumery in the cosmetic field. Also, the oil is being actively researched over as terpenes it contains useful as antifungal, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant as well. It may show its value as any of these in future products. It is useful as a fragrance in cosmetic care applications.
