What is Eugenia caryphyllus flower oil or Clove oil?
Clove oil is an essential oil, obtained from either dried bud or blossom of plant Eugenia caryophyllus. It is steam distilled to get the essential oil. It contains mainly eugenol about 80 %, 10% of it is acetyl eugenol and caryophyllene. Eugenol is responsible for clove’s pungent smell and taste. It also gives clove a local anesthetic like effect. Clove oil for toothache is a famous and old remedy for years. Clove oil is a colorless to pale yellow oil with a watery consistency. It has strong, spicy and warm fragrance.
