It is usually white crystalline solid, but also comes as a tasteless, colorless solution form.
Use & Benefits:
Because of its structural specialty of a Sulphur atom, it is a stable and powerful antioxidant. It not only prevents oxidation but also a free radical scavenger, especially -OH radical. Any antioxidant serves a dual purpose in the formula, firstly, it prevents skin’s degeneration by climatic factors such as pollution, harmful UV rays, exposure to chemical fumes, etc. By preventing important fatty acids or such molecules of skin, it helps retain their reservoir for skin longer, which in turn prevents skin from becoming prematurely aged. As a result, the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, or sagging can be avoided. Secondly, it stabilizes the formulation in which it is being used. It prevents the otherwise detrimental effects of oxygen to the product such as discoloration, separation, foul smell, etc. It is used in antiaging products i.e. creams and serums.
