What is Disodium diglyceryl phosphate?

Disodium diglyceryl phosphate is a disodium salt of phosphoric acid, a diester of oxybis propanediol. It is soluble in water.

Disodium diglyceryl phosphate contains two molecules of glycerol and one molecule of phosphate. Glycerol is a humectant. It not only moisturizes but also preserves the moisture around the skin cell. Moreover, phosphate is very helpful in performing other biological functions. Thus, disodium diglyceryl phosphate conditions the skin. It is also used as a thickener in the cosmetics industry.
