INCI: Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone cross polymer
What is Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone cross polymer?
Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone cross polymer is a copolymer of dimethylpolysiloxane and vinyl dimethylpolysiloxane. These are flexible silicon polymers consisting of crosslinked dimethicone copolymers.
Use & Benefits:
It contains vinyl in its structure, and so it is an aliphatic chain, it is used to increase viscosity in a nonaqueous solvent. It has various groups in its polymeric structure, so it neutralizes any ions that may otherwise create stability problem in a formulation. Thus, it is used as an emulsion stabilizer. It is said that the silicone polymer structure is like a net, so this is helpful in case of creating a stable dispersion. It is also used as a hair styling agent in which it forms a film over hair, which is breathable and protective as well. So, it is used in deodorants, hair care products, skin care products, and makeup products.
