The best exfoliant for dry skin: Glycolic Acid (AHA)

If you have dry skin and you need an exfoliant, Glycolic Acid is for you. Along with Salicylic Acid is part of most facial treatments, do you know why? They have multiple properties that care for and protect our skin, so why not include it in your Lesielle treatment!

What is the Glicolic Acid?

Glycolic Acid is an exfoliating active ingredient that belongs to the family of the Alfahidroxiácidos (AHA). This active is found naturally in sugar cane and in many fruits. Hydroxy Acids have the ability to act on the epidermis, penetrating deep into the skin and cleaning the pores.

Thanks it’s properties of penetrating deep into the pores, it naturally exfoliates our skin and eliminates dead cells, which gives way to the new skin cells we create. So our skin will typically start looking brighter and much healthier.

Unlike Salicylic Acid, which is the exfoliant indicated for oily and combination skin, Glycolic Acid is especially indicated for dry skin. So, if you have this type of skin, read to the end because the last section of this post will be of interest to you!

Benefits of Glycolic Acid (AHA)

The benefits of Glycolic Acid are many since it acts on the most superficial layer of the skin, but also penetrates to the root of the pore. Together with Salicylic Acid, it is part of Lesielle's Anti imperfections Range:

  • It eliminates the dead cells of our skin; helping it to regenerate the skin by giving way to new cells. This exfoliation of the skin or peeling effect leaves the skin soft, smooth and rejuvenated.

  • It has an anti-wrinkle effect. It helps the synthesis of collagen and softens wrinkles.

  • Do you have skin discoloration and pigmentation? Glycolic Acid acts as a depigmenting agent, unifying the tone and reducing scars. Futher more, if you combine it with Vitamin C the overall effect and improved appearance will be increased.

  • Using Glycolic Acid, your skin will achieve the proper water retention capacity, therefore, hydration will be maintained at a stable level. If you have dry skin, this benefit will relieve the discomfort of tightness and dehydration.

  • It fights acne thanks to its exfoliating effect.

Exfoliating treatment with Glycolic Acid

As we have already discovered, the properties of Glycolic Acid are very beneficial to our skin.

Although this active is the recommended exfoliant for dry skin, it does not mean that only dry skin types can include them in their treatment. Each skin is unique and thanks to Lesielle you can test the actives one by one, checking yourself you can see which actives work best on your skin.

So, to create our customised treatment with an exfoliating effect, first you need to choose a Lesielle base cream that best suits your skin. You have different textures to choose from within each range of skin type, from lighter to more nourishing. Finally you add the active ingredients that will give your skin the desired effect you are looking for.

How to care for dry skin with Glycolic Acid

  • Skin with discoloration and pigmentation: Glycolic Acid + Vitamin C: If your goal is to eliminate all the discoloration and pigmentation from your skin and give it a touch of shine. However as both are somewhat irritating, before using them combined, please test your skin beforehand to make sure you don’t have sensitive skin. As you already know with Lesielle you can test each active one by one.

  • Skin with imperfections: Glycolic acid + Vitamin E: The anti-inflammatory effect of Vitamin E together with glycolic acid, acne problems will be much more stabilized.

  • Hyaluronic acid: If we want an extra touch of hydration of light texture. If, on the other hand, you prefer a richer texture and more nutritious effect, you could opt for Argan Oil.

Glycolic Acid is specifically indicated for dry skin, therefore, if you have oily or mixed skin we recommend Salicylic Acid, which is more effective in this type of skin.

The same would apply if you have sensitive dry skin, but as you already know with Lesielle you can test the actives separately one by one first, to match their compatibility with your skin.
