Care for Sensitive Combination Skin

How do you care for a sensitive and combination skin if you have different areas of your skin that are oily, normal or dry? If you have sensitive and combination skin, you’ve surely asked yourself that question. Still not sure if this is your skin type? Don’t fret we’ll help you out on some of your concerns in this post.

How do I know if I have sensitive and combination skin?

To identify mixed skin we must be clear that it definitely has the characteristics of both skin types: an oily zone called the "T Zone" and drier patches, which are commonly the cheeks.

Mixed skin can also be sensitive and has characteristic symptoms:

  • Redness
  • Burning
  • Tingling
  • Tightness
  • Stinging

Although in general, we can say that sensitivity is characterized by redness and usually reacts to the many beauty products and cosmetic creams that we apply.

How to care for sensitive and combination skin

Our skin type is largely predetermined by factors such as genetics, hormonal influences, and skin diseases, but we are also exposed to external agents and environmental factors that can affect sensitive skin to a greater extent. The good news is with a good beauty regime and general care of our skin we can help avoid, to a certain extent, our skin being irritated by these external and environmental factors:

  • Use a moisturizer specifically for sensitive skin and avoid those that do not indicate it, as they may not be formulated with the mild ingredients necessary for this skin type. Also, make sure they also say they are indicated for combination skin.
  • Wash the skin with specific products such as mild gels and with a pH appropriate to the acidity of our skin (the actual pH of the skin is 4.7 on average). Also, use with luke water warm, neither too hot nor too cold.

  • To prevent redness, exfoliate your skin with mild chemical exfoliants such as Salicylic Acid (specifically for combination or oily skin) in low concentrations. Even though it is one of the more milder exfoliants, it is still best to try a small area first to ensure compatibility.
  • Beware of sudden changes in temperature and air conditioning/heating because they can dry out your skin and cause reddening.
  • If you do outdoor sports in cold weather, protect your skin by applying moisturizer before leaving home. And in summer, don’t forget to include sun protection factor in your moisturizer to prevent photoaging and burns.

How to care for sensitive and combination skin with redness

Always choose a cream formulated specifically for sensitive skin, since they will have milder ingredients. It's a good idea to also include soothing ingredients. In Lesielle’s Sensitive Range the base creams include two soothing ingredients: Bisabolol and Aloe Vera.
If you also want to include active ingredients in your treatment, choose those compatible with sensitive skin or ones which have a calming effect. In the Lesielle range, we use the active ingredients Resveratrol and Vitamin E for this purpose.

Care for sensitive and combination skin with open pores

If you have open pores, especially in the T Zone, we recommend you to include Vitamin B3 or Niacinamide in your treatment. These active ingredients of the Anti-Ageing range is the best one visibly for reducing pores and it is a great reference for Antiaging in sensitive skins.

Care for dehydrated sensitive and combination skin

Sensitive skin, despite having oily areas, can also be dehydrated. Usually, a specific cream for combination skin will balance the level of hydration little by little.
However, if you find one day that the area of skin on the cheeks is tighter than normal, you can add extra hydration with active ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid.

How to create a customized treatment for sensitive and combination skin with Lesielle?

So we have offered a few tips and now we are also going to offer you a suggested Lesielle Treatment, which is effective but gentle enough for most sensitive skins. Here we offer just an example, but your treatment can and should be adapted to be consistent with your needs and goals:

Base cream for combination and sensitive skin with SPF + Vitamin B3 + Resveratrol + Antipollution

  • Vitamin B3 Active: This is the perfect Anti-Aging for sensitive skin, as not only does it offer an anti-aging effect, it also calms down the skin. It is also a good active ingredient to visibly decrease the size of pores. It also works smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles and blemishes that you may have on your face, all the while giving an illuminating effect.
  • Resveratrol Active: It is a powerful antioxidant to help prevent the signs of aging and it too has a calming effect on the skin. It also has some properties which fight against bacteria and fungi.
  • Antipollution Active: If you live in a big city this active ingredient will protect you from the harming effects of pollution such as heavy metals, PM 2.5 particles, dust ...

Salicylic Acid has also shown have a soothing effect on sensitive skin with acne. Although initially it may be a little strong for sensitive skin, you can introduce it little by little in small amounts or only at night to build up your skin tolerance.
