What is Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate?
Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate is quite a free-flowing powder because of starch in it. When octenyl succinic anhydride with starch (a chemically modified starch) is allowed to react with an aluminum salt, aluminum starch octenyl succinate is formed.
Use & Benefits:
It is a modified starch, so it gives a product quick drying yet it sticks to the skin. Natural fibers of starch make it ideal for controlling the viscosity of a product in a non-aqueous vehicle. Like other salts, it is used as a thickening and anticaking. Along with titanium dioxide, it works best as an SPF improver in sunscreen products. Due to its hydrophobic nature, it reduces greasiness of any product. It is used in face powders, hand and body lotions, and foundations to name a few.
