What is Alcohol denat?
Denatured alcohol, also known as methylated spirit or denatured rectified spirit, is pure alcohol that has been rendered unfit for anyone to consume. There are various ways in which alcohol can be denatured. Either by mixing it with methanol, or adding other chemicals like denatonium saccharide or denatonium benzoate, or any common additive like methyl ethyl ketone, pyridine, naphtha, diethyl phthalate and number of other agents. The only purpose of denaturing alcohol is to control its unethical use by the layman.
Use & Benefits:
It can be used as a solvent or for changing viscosity of any product. It has antimicrobial property, that is why it is often used to sterilize anything, including the skin. It helps loosen the dead skin cells from the epidermal layer and helps remove from the surface, thus making the newer skin cell layer show up. It is also used as a masking agent, to get rid of any unpleasant odor or taste. Denatured alcohol is usually found in hand sanitizers, rubbing alcohol, cosmetics, and personal products.
