Tormentil extract is obtained from the plant Potentilla erecta, commonly known as tormentil or septfoil. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that belongs to the family Rosaceae. It grows in regions of Europe and the western parts of Asia. The plant bears yellow-colored flowers and inedible fruits. The root of the plant is used as food and also to make a bitter liqueur. The extract, obtained from the roots, is rich in compounds like tannins, flavonoids, phytosterols, and other compounds. This extract has been used as herbal medicine for ages to treat various ailments.
