ZINC OXIDE
INCI: Zinc oxide
What is Zinc oxide?
Zinc oxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula ZnO. It can be made synthetically or obtained from its naturally occurring mineral form called zincite. Zinc oxide occurs as a white powder that is odorless and insoluble in water. It has a wide range of uses, such as in manufacturing plastics, ceramics, rubber, and paints. In early times, it was likely used as a medicine named pushpanjan to treat eye infections and open wounds.
Use & Benefits:
Bulking agent: Zinc oxide is used to dilute other ingredients and give bulk to the product.
UV absorber: Zinc oxide can absorb harmful UV radiation from the sun. It forms a protective layer on the surface of the skin and prevents damage caused by harmful radiation. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation can cause it to penetrate deep into the skin and change the structure of skin proteins, resulting in the formation of dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Skin-protecting agent: Zinc oxide has a soothing effect on the skin and is used in the formulation of creams, lotions, gels, makeup, sun care products, and other skincare products.
