What is Xylose?
Xylose is a type of pentose sugar. It is a monosaccharide derived from hemicellulose, which forms the main content of biomass. Xylose was first isolated from wood in 1881 by a Finnish scientist named Koch. Xylose has many applications, such as being used as a precursor in the synthesis of synthetic polymers, xylitol, and animal medicines.
Use & Benefits:
Humectant: Xylose is used in a variety of cosmetic and personal care products as a humectant. It absorbs water from the water vapor present in the air and keeps the skin hydrated.
Masking agent: Xylose is also used as a masking agent in cosmetic and personal care products. It masks the undesirable smell of other ingredients present in the product.
Skin conditioning agent: Xylose functions as a skin conditioning agent in cosmetic and personal care products. It can be used on all skin types, especially normal and mildly dry skin types. It helps retain moisture in the skin, keeps it conditioned, and enhances the water retention capacity of the skin. Additionally, it helps shed dead cells from the skin and protects it from skin infections like acne.
Hair conditioning agent: Xylose also helps keep hair hydrated, conditioned, and protected from drying out.
Application in different products: Xylose is used in the formulations of shampoos, conditioners, facial cleansers, bath products, and various skin and hair care products.
