What is Vetiveria zizanioides root oil?
Vetiver oil or extract is obtained from the plant Vetiveria zizanioides, of the family Poaceae. It is commonly called vetiver. The plant is a perennial bunchgrass similar to other grasses like lemongrass and palmarosa. It is native to tropical regions like India and Indonesia. The plant has many different kinds of uses; for example, it is used to prevent soil erosion as it stabilizes the soil. It also protects the crop from pests and weeds. The roots of the plant are used to obtain extract or oil by steam distillation. The oil is a light to dark brown, viscous liquid with a characteristic odor. The oil is used for its aroma in aromatherapy, as herbal medicine, and also in cosmetic products.
