What is Terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid?
Terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid, also known as Ecamsule or Mexoryl SX, is an organic compound and derivative of benzylidene camphor. It was patented by L’Oréal in 1982. The FDA gave approval for its usage in cosmetics in the year 2006 in the USA. It is a water-soluble compound used in many sunscreens. It filters out harmful UV rays and protects the skin from damage. - UV Protection: Absorbs, deflects, or scatters UV radiation, protecting the skin from rapid aging, sunburn, and the development of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
- Approved UV Filter: In Europe, it is an approved UV filter, allowing its use in products such as sunscreen to protect the skin from the sun.
- Ultraviolet Ray Absorber: In the USA, it is known as an ultraviolet ray absorber, effectively absorbing UV light to protect the product from deterioration.
