SODIUM PHYTATE
INCI: Sodium phytate
What is Sodium phytate?
The sodium version of Phytic Acid is Sodium Phytate. Phytic acid is abundant in plant tissues, particularly in bran and seeds, where it serves as the primary storage form of phosphorus. It's an organic acid derived from rice bran that has a strong chelating effect and functions as a storehouse for phosphorus. Sodium phytate has the ability to absorb mineral ions such as calcium and magnesium and maintain balance in plant tissues.
Use & Benefits:
- Natural Chelating Agent: It is a natural chelating agent that can be used in cosmetic products to replace disodium and tetrasodium EDTA. It aids in the prevention of unwanted metal-catalyzed reactions, resulting in the stabilization of cosmetics.
- Enhances Antioxidant Effectiveness: It works in tandem with other antioxidants to address coloring and rancidity caused by metals in formulations.
- Preservative Potentiator: Chelating compounds are often used as a preservative potentiator in cosmetic formulations. Microorganisms require trace metals for cell wall repair and survival. Chelants bind to these metals, rendering them inaccessible to bacteria, weakening germs, and allowing cosmetic preservatives to function more effectively.
- Skin Moisturizing: Sodium Phytate offers numerous skin benefits in addition to its chelating properties. It moisturizes the skin and improves its suppleness.
- Normalizes Oily Skin: It normalizes oily skin and may aid in pore reduction.
- Brightens Skin: It helps to brighten the skin and may aid in the reduction of cellulite.
