SODIUM CETEARYL SULFATE
INCI: Sodium cetearyl sulfate
What is Sodium cetearyl sulfate?
Sodium cetearyl sulfate is a mixture of stearyl and cetyl sulfate. It is a white to faintly yellow powder. It is the sodium salt of a mixture of cetyl and stearyl sulfate, which are two alkyl sulfates made up of cetyl and stearyl fatty acids bound to a sulfate group. It functions as a co-emulsifier in oil-in-water emulsions and as a foamy cleaning ingredient in rinse-off products like shampoos and shower gels. It is soluble in water and is used at a concentration of 0.1-25.0%, depending on the usage of the product. It is used in a number of cosmetic and personal care products.
Use & Benefits:
Surfactant: reduces surface tension between two product components, such as two liquids or a liquid and a solid.
Emulsifying agent: helps to mix two substances that don't normally combine, such as oil and water.
Dispersing agent: helps to evenly distribute particles throughout a product.
Solubilizing agent: helps to dissolve ingredients that would normally be insoluble in a product.
Wetting agent: helps to spread a product over a surface.
Cleansing agent: draws dirt, oil, and other pollutants from the skin's surface, which can be easily rinsed away with water.
Foaming agent: produces foam in rinse-off products like shampoos and shower gels.
Hydrophilic and hydrophobic: contains both water-loving and oil-loving properties, making it useful in a wide range of cosmetic and personal care products.
Skin protection: keeps the skin clean and protects it from infections like acne.
Versatile ingredient: used in the formulations of creams, lotions, gels, baby care products, and other skin and hair care products.
