Sodium acetate is the sodium salt of acetic acid, with the chemical formula C2H3NaO2. It is a white, hygroscopic powder that is soluble in water.

Cosmetics: Sodium acetate is used in a variety of cosmetic products as a preservative and buffering agent. It helps inhibit the growth of molds, fungi, or bacteria in the product and increases the product's shelf life. This allows the aroma, taste, and cosmetics to be stored for a longer period. It protects the product from deteriorating over time. Sodium acetate is used in the formulation of hair dyes, shampoos, body and facial cleansers, and various skin and hair care products.
