What is Sesamum indicum seed oil?
Sesame oil is an edible oil obtained from the seeds of the plant Sesamum indicum, which is distributed in tropical regions such as India, Africa, and Sudan. The oil is extracted from its seeds, and it is a pale yellow liquid with a characteristic nutty flavor. It is composed of fatty acids like linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid. The oil is mainly used in cooking to enhance the flavor of food, and it is also used in cosmetic products and medicines.
Use & Benefits:
Emollient: Sesame oil functions as an emollient, conditioning agent, and masking agent. Considering its fatty nature, it imparts a conditioning effect to the skin.
Skin nourishment: When applied to the skin, it quickly gets absorbed into the skin. Moreover, it nourishes the skin via fatty acids like linolenic acid and palmitic acid. Any dryness in the skin gets relieved quickly and naturally.
Skin firmness: Many times, the skin loses its firmness merely due to the loss of moisture content or dryness. When an emollient like sesame oil is applied to the skin, it forms a thin film on the skin surface and retains moisture, providing some amount of firmness to the skin.
Massage oil: Sesame oil is widely used for its lightness, odorless, and nourishing properties as massage oil.
