What is Sclerocarya birrea seed oil?
Sclerocarya birrea is a deciduous tree with a single stem and a crown of leaves on top. It bears edible fruits commonly called marula. The plant is native to Miombo woodlands of South Africa and is also found in West Africa and Madagascar. It belongs to the family Anacardiaceae, as does the mango and cashew nut. The tree is commercially used for its fruits, which are edible and used to make beer. The oil is extracted from its seeds by traditional cold press method. It is a clear, colorless or light yellow-colored liquid with a characteristic odor. It is rich in fatty acids like linoleic acid, stearic acid, and oleic acid, which makes it a useful ingredient in cosmetic products.
