What is Santalum album oil?
Sandalwood oil is obtained from the plant Santalum album, commonly named sandalwood. It is a small tropical tree native to Southern India and Southeast Asia, and the tree is mainly used to obtain sandalwood, oil, and its fragrant inner wood which is of religious importance in India. Additionally, it has been used in India for ages for various skin ailments similar to pruritus in the summer season, to dry out secretions, combat odor, and provide soothing relief. It is the second-costliest wood in the world. The oil is extracted by steam distillation and possesses therapeutic value. The oil consists of compounds like sesquiterpenes, alcohols, and santalol.

Aromatic Ingredient: Sandalwood oil is used in a variety of cosmetic products. Its aromatic ingredient, santalol, is mainly used in aromatherapy and as a masking agent.

Ayurvedic Method: According to the ancient Ayurvedic method, the piece of wood is rubbed against a stone gently with a tiny bit of water and applied to the skin, which is believed to promote skin complexion, radiance, and glow.
Astringent: It also functions as an astringent, which can make a complex with skin protein forms, such as dead bacteria or dead skin cells, and help clear them from the top layer of the skin. As a result, fresh cells appear from below, making the skin look radiant.
Masking Agent: As a masking agent, it is used to mask the undesirable smell of other ingredients in cosmetic products.
