ROSA DAMASCENA OIL
INCI: Rosa damascena flower oil
What is Rosa damascena flower oil?
Rosa damascena oil is obtained from the plant Rosa damascena, which is a deciduous shrub commonly called Damask rose. It is a hybrid variety of rose cultivated mainly for its flowers, and its origin is in Central Asia and the Middle East. Nowadays, it is cultivated in many countries throughout the world, both as an ornamental plant and for extracting extract or oil from its flowers. The oil is obtained by distillation of fresh flowers and has physical properties that are pale yellow in color and semi-solid in texture. The oil is very costly because of its unique composition, and it is almost impossible to synthesize it in a laboratory setting. Extracting oil from flowers requires a huge load of rose flowers, and the essential oil mainly contains volatile constituents such as citronellol, geraniol, nonadecane, nerol, and kaempferol.
Use & Benefits:
Astringent Properties: Rosa damascena oil has astringent properties that help to cleanse the skin by forming a complex with skin protein from dead skin cells and bacteria found on the skin. This layer can later be washed away with water, and it also reduces and constricts the pores of the skin, which reduces excess oil secretion and keeps skin less oily.
Skin Conditioning: The oil also has skin conditioning properties that help to brighten up the skin and make it look even-toned. Once the layer of dead skin cells and bacteria is removed from the top layer of the skin surface, it helps to keep the skin healthy and glowing.
Fragrance: Rosa damascena oil is used as a fragrance in perfumery, and it is a popular ingredient in many skincare and cosmetic products due to its pleasant and mild fragrance.
Masking Agent: As a masking agent, it is used to mask the undesirable smell of other ingredients in the product. It is used in the formulation of perfumes, fragrances, and other skincare products.
