RICINUS COMMUNIS

INCI: Ricinus communis seed oil

What is Ricinus communis seed oil?

Ricinus communis, commonly known as the castor oil plant, is a perennial flowering plant indigenous to the Southeastern Mediterranean Basin, Eastern Africa, and India. Castor oil is extracted from the seeds of the plant and is rich in triglycerides such as ricinolein. It has a wide variety of uses, particularly in cosmetic products, where it functions as an emollient, skin conditioning agent, and moisturizer. For more information refer to castor oil.

Use & Benefits:

1.    Emollient:
•    Castor oil is a natural emollient, which means it helps to soothe and soften the skin.
•    Its high concentration of fatty acids, particularly ricinoleic acid, helps to nourish the skin and promote skin health.
•    Its smooth, silky texture makes it a popular ingredient in moisturizing creams, lotions, and balms.
2.    Skin conditioning agent:
•    Castor oil is a skin conditioning agent that helps to improve the texture and appearance of the skin.
•    It helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while also hydrating and nourishing the skin.
•    Its antioxidant properties help to protect the skin from free radical damage, which can contribute to premature aging.
3.    Moisturizer:
•    Castor oil is a powerful moisturizer that helps to hydrate the skin and prevent moisture loss.
•    Its ability to penetrate deep into the skin helps to nourish and protect the skin from the inside out.
•    It's commonly used in lip balms, hand creams, and body lotions to provide long-lasting moisture and hydration.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
•    Castor oil is also known for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which make it an effective treatment for acne-prone skin.
•    Its high concentration of ricinoleic acid makes it an effective treatment for dry, itchy scalp and dandruff.
•    Castor oil can also be used to promote hair growth and reduce hair breakage.
