PVP/Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate copolymer functions as binder, film -former, and hair fixative in cosmetic products. It is a more important ingredient from a formulation viewpoint than skincare. As a binding agent, it helps in binding or holding together the ingredient in a cosmetic product in the compressed cake or tablet form of a product.  Ingredients in a dry form mixed and using the minimalist amount of binder blended and then compressed to get the desired effect. This method prevents other ingredients of the product from falling apart. As a film-forming agent when applied on the hair or skin, they form a supple, cohesive, and continuous layer. This layer/film has water-binding properties that leave a silky and smooth effect on the skin.  It is also used in hair gels and sprays. When used it forms a thin coating or film on the surface of the hair. Considering its structure, it also has various chemical groups that form temporary bonds which can not only help to form a film but also help bind with the hair shaft and hold the style. It prevents the hair to absorb moisture and helps it to hold its style. It is used in formulations of hairstyling and other hair care products.
