GLYCINE

Glycine is the smallest of all amino acids, which can easily pass through the pores of the skin. That’s why it is very useful in retaining moisture within the skin. Moreover, it is interesting to know that the skin’s important protein collagen has glycine as one of its constituents. Glycine with other amino acids, as well as sugars and electrolytes form the skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF). So, when glycine is applied to the skin it enhances moisture retention of skin.  Moist skin is often strong enough to withstand any environmental damage caused. When topically applied it helps getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. As mentioned earlier it is a part of collagen, along with two other amino acid proline and hydroxyproline. As we age our natural collagen levels decreases, as a result skin loses its firmness. When glycine is applied topically on the skin, it helps strengthen the skins basic matrix and skin become firmer. Also, it helps repair and regenerate the skin. Glycine also has a role as a buffering agent in cosmetic formulation. It neutralizes the formulation thereby making it soothing to the skin. It is used in body care, skincare, and hair care products.
