What is Citrate buffer?
Citrate buffer is a mixture of acid-Citric acid and salt- Sodium citrate. Buffers are mainly used to adjust the pH of any formulation. It cannot be used in excessive amount because it may cause sensitization.
Use & Benefits:
It is used in any formulation to stabilize ingredients. It maintains pH towards acidic side. Sometimes, in order to make a formulation lesser reactive to environmental factors like heat or moisture, buffering agents are used. They can improve shelf life also.
