What is Euphrasia officinalis?
Euphrasia officinalis, also known as ‘eyebright’, is an eye healing herb according to ancient resources as well. It is found throughout Europe and temperate regions of Asia. It contains Iridoid glycosides such as aucubin, catalpol, luproside, euphroside, eurostoside, geniposide, lignans, tannins, and phenolic acids such as gallic acid, ferulic acid, and caffeic acid.
Use & Benefits:
Polyphenolic acids, tannins, all act as an anti-inflammatory so when these ingredients are applied on the eye, they produce cooling and anti-inflammatory effect. It is also helpful in the treatment of dark circles and puffiness around the eye. However, this is usually done as per doctor’s advice. It also when applied on the face, loosens the dead skin cell, debris and bacteria lingering on the dead skin cell by cleansing action and clears the facial skin. It also conditions the skin, it forms a thin layer on the top layer of skin, which keeps the moisture intact and thus no drying effect on the skin. It is used under eye creams and serums.
