What is Bioflavonoid?

Bioflavonoids are a group of compounds, found in plants. For example, green tea, onions, citrus fruits, cherries, plums, and berries have the highest amount of bioflavonoids. Flavonoids are consumed by the body not only to exert it’s an antioxidant effect but also it acts on many enzymes, for example, cyclooxygenase, prostaglandin synthetase, protein kinase, hyaluronidase to name a few. When topically applied It acts as an antioxidant, prevents the destruction of collagen by free radicals. Also prevents Hyaluronic acid destruction by preventing hyaluronidase enzyme. Thus, it helps better maintaining the moisture of the skin. It is anti-inflammatory in nature since it also inhibits release of histamine, which is responsible for flare and redness of the skin.
